Nvidia to Launch Budget-Friendly Blackwell AI Chip for China Amid U.S. Export Restrictions

In response to escalating U.S. export controls, Nvidia is developing a more affordable version of its Blackwell AI chip, specifically tailored for the Chinese market. This strategic move aims to maintain Nvidia’s presence in China, which accounted for approximately 17% of its revenue in the year ending January 2025, a decline from 26% two years prior .

Strategic Collaboration with Inspur

Nvidia plans to collaborate with Inspur, a major distributor in China, for the launch and distribution of the new chip, tentatively named the “B20.” Shipments are expected to commence in the second quarter of 2025 . The U.S. has intensified export restrictions on advanced semiconductors to China since 2023, aiming to curb China’s advancements in supercomputing and military applications.
